At the Mecca Mall in Amman we had an opportunity to think about how our families back home are preparing for the first day of school--clothes and school supply shopping and the one last summer vacation Starbucks coffee. Jordanian parents and students are doing the same thing here--shopping for clothes, backpacks, and supplies and having that one last summer Starbucks cup of coffee.Today, we had a chance to think about education in Jordan and in the U.S., and how we can reform our systems to put students at the center of learning. After a bout of shopping at the Mecca Mall, we had a wonderful opportunity to visit with Rana Madani, the Head of Education Research and Innovation for the Jordan Education Initiative. She inspired us to think about putting students at the center of learning. Her passion for young people and how to reform traditional teaching into inspired teaching is contagious. She was throwing off sparks of inspiration and she rekindled our desire to become leaders in our schools. We are all here on the JET Fellowship because each of us passionately believes that all young people should have the opportunity to be at the center of their education and learning. We are here for them.
After our visit at the Jordan Education Initiative center we had a quick meal in party hats...
thought about and bought some sweets and a chocolate birthday cake for Anna, and then retired with the shopping spoils of the day.
