A Forest in the Hills or Little Mountains of Jordan

In the end we will conserve only what we love,
we will love only what we understand,
we will understand only what we are taught.
--Baba Dioum, Senegalese poetThe above quote from Baba Dioum is a mission goal for education outreach of the the RSCN, the Jordanian Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature. The Ajloun Forest felt like a piece of Greece or Southern France in the midst of Jordan...a mountain forest ringed by olive trees. A thought provoking respite from the arid land and densely populated cities and towns that we have seen in Jordan. The quality of the forest stewardship efforts by the RSCN is a model for all communities to follow. Jordan has passionate environmentalists, educators, and community builders who can lead the world! Their stewardship model encourages a mutually beneficial relationship between local communities and the protected lands. Poor women and villagers are helped, and they in turn support the forests and other protected areas of Jordan.
